I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.”
There is something special about being physically present in the house of the Lord. You won’t experience it from a Zoom “church.” Worshiping together truly bring us closer to God in a way Zoom services will never be able to match. As part of a worship service, singing has a way of setting moods. It can make you feel happy or teary or anything in between. But what I love about hymns (especially classic hymns) is that they are rooted and grounded in the word of God. Unlike these modern hip-hop-disco-style “worship” songs being played everywhere in our local churches, you can literally hear the gospel through listening and meditating on classic hymns. Plus, hymns have a long history going all the way back to the days of our Lord Jesus and the apostles. See this passage:
Matthew 26:30 “And after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.”
Tradition tell us that they probably sang Psalm 113 -118 because the Passover was observed by the Jews by “chanting” those psalms. If hymns were good for our Lord and the apostles then they are good for us today.
So today we will sing. We are going to turn our eyes upon Jesus. This song, “Turn your eyes” will help us do just that. It’s calling us to come closer to God and to each other. With every note, we are able to connect with our Lord Jesus.
May the Lord Jesus speak to you as you are turning your eyes to Him. Amen!
