A Few Cross References
Colossians 1:19, For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell
Colossians 2:9-10, For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells, and you have been made complete in Him, who is the Head of all rule and authority. Some translation writes you have been “filled” in Him.
Mining Treasures
Notice the word “received” is past tense. Many Christians today are miserable, deceived, being led astray by cunning men thinking they can buy God’s favor when God has already poured to us all of His blessings through His Son Jesus Christ. We have all received grace upon grace. God’s grace upon grace is flowing to us through Christ. The jar of grace will not be used up and the jug of joy will not run dry. That’s why I’m beaming with joy about it.
The word “all” means all people (sinners and saved) throughout all generations from Adam to the end of the age. That is why the coming of Jesus Christ is Good News. The Good News to those who were near and Good News to us who were far not only from Israel but also from God.
If Christ did not come into the world, we were all doomed and condemned to the pit of hell eternally. Hell was the only place you and I belonged until Christ came. Praise the Lord!
Sinners are benefiting from God’s grace too in their temporary life here on earth. They get to enjoy common grace everyday so that maybe they would seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him (Acts 17:27). Because God desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). He makes His sun rise on the evil and good, He sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous (Matthew 5:45).
Ezekiel 18:23 writes, “Do I take pleasure in the death of the wicked?” declares the Lord God. “Wouldn’t I prefer that he turn from his ways and live?” From Jesus’ fullness, we have all received grace upon grace.
The word “Grace” charis / khar’-ece/ (G5485) means; graciousness, of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude): -acceptable, benefit, favor, gift, grace (-ious), joy liberality, pleasure, thank (-s, -worthy).
Just ponder the meaning of the word grace for a while. I don’t know if we can fully understand, but the Bible tells us that from Jesus’ fullness we have all received grace upon grace. That is, Jesus Himself is grace. He was the walking and breathing grace. His grace is not only sufficient to all but also repeatedly-grace upon grace upon grace upon grace throughout all generations. We cannot deplete His grace. What kind of Man was He? He was more than a Man. Jesus Christ is God.
The Detrimental of Our Sinful Nature
John 1:17 writes, “For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” Do you remember when the children of Israel told Moses, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do!” Exodus 19:8. Did they?
Obviously, the children of Israel had the Fauci moment:
They didn’t know what they were talking about. They didn’t understand the depth of their sinful nature. They didn’t grasp the amplitude of their sinfulness given God’s holy righteousness. They had no idea how hard and impossible was for them to achieve their right standing with God on their own. That was true for each and everyone of us before the grace of God has appeared.
False religions, men’s traditions and Christian’s cults are deceiving many into repeating Israel’s epic failure. No wonder God’s people are miserable!
Jesus came into the world. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men (John 1:4). And of His fullness (His deity) we have all received, and grace upon grace.
Grace upon Grace from The Bible
Ephesians 2:8, For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
Romans 11:6, But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, since otherwise grace is no longer grace.
Romans 6:14, For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Titus 2:11-14, For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously, and in a godly manner in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
Let me comment from this passage for a second please: There is no such a thing as a “Christian homosexual” or a “Christian adulterer” or a “Christian thief.” To be a Christian means you’ve denied ungodliness and worldly desires. You have received God’s grace. You have denounced sin. You can’t keep on sinning and be Christian. If you claim to be one then you are self deceived. You are still living in darkness. There is no in between with God.
Acts 15:11, But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are.”
Ephesians 1:7, In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our wrongdoings, according to the riches of His grace.
You get the picture. All the riches of His grace are available for us. Let’s renew our minds today starting with those few verses. Grace upon grace is indeed ours in Christ.
A Call To Repentance
If you don’t know Jesus Christ. If you have not received Him in your life, you will not see life, for the wrath of God remains on you (John 3:36). I am talking to you Mormons, Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Jehova Witnesses, Christian Science, 7th Day Adventists, and to you all unbelieving pagans who are benefiting from His common grace.
There is more grace upon grace far beyond what we are all experiencing in this life. That grace come to us from the fullness of Jesus Christ only. Muhammad cannot give to you. Buddha cannot give to you. Smith cannot give to you. Whatever gods you are worshipping (for every human worships something or someone) cannot give to you. They cannot give what they don’t have. Only Jesus Christ can give you grace upon grace for He Himself is Grace. “The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth,” John 1:14.
You can receive Jesus Christ today by believing in His name!
