Her ways are pleasant ways And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who hold her fast.

I could go on and on, the bottom line is that peace is worthy of pursuit. The good news is you don’t have to do it the hard way. Jesus Christ did it all for us. In fact, Jesus Christ is that peace. He is the perfect peace. A christian have that peace for He is your peace. When your mind stays on something, it is anchored to it. Your thoughts are fixed- they stay firm in it. You need your mind fixed on Jesus. He is the immovable cornerstone.

You can look at your problem in relation to your ability to fix it, or you can focus on God and view your problem in relation to His ability. God does the keeping when you fix your mind on Him. He does it because you trust in Him.

The opposite of peace is confusion. Where peace lacks, there’s confusion. God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints, 1 Corinthians 14:33.

Let’s play the doubter’s advocate 🙈:

Q: What if I put my confidence in the government? What if I trust in the president?
A: Well, Psalm 146:3-4 has an answer for us. It is written, “Do not trust in noblemen, in mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.”

Don’t trust in mortal men regardless of their power or influence because:
1. They cannot save you.
2. When they departs, they return to the ground and on that very day their plans perish.
3. They do not remain faithful forever. So even if they are faithful-it is temporary.

Q: What if I trust in myself?
A: Well, how many promises have you broken? How many times have you flipped -flopped, forgotten, procrastinate, ignore, abandon, disappoint and so forth? Self won’t keep you peaceful. Self will not prosper you or make you right with God. Self is weak, unreliable, and mortal. When God says He will, it is done. He will do it. Such a deep comfort knowing this to be true.

Therefore, in God-not only we can have perfect peace, and even be kept in a place of perfect peace (contrary to fleeting peace or imperfect peace). The source of this shalom shalom is God, but our minds must be settled upon, remain, established upon in the Lord Himself.

Where is your mind at?

Where do you lay your mind upon? What upholds your mind? Is it on porn? Is it fear? Is it money? It is CNN? You will fall.

In order to be in this perfect peace, your mind cannot occasionally come to the LORD; it has to “remain in Him.” If my mind stayed on myself, or on my problems or on the problems of people in my life or anything else, I will miss this perfect peace even though it is readily available for me through Christ. Peace is the litmus test in terms of whatever your mind lean on. Peace will distinguish a person whose mind stays on God from a person whose mind stays on everything else but God.

Important to note

Peace we are talking about here, or biblical peace in general, do not blossom from the absence of storms. Instead, it is present notwithstanding life’s storms. This peaceful mind is not moved by any external forces. In fact, it is not moved even with your own feelings and emotions. What are you going to do if a king or president or governor-someone who have authority over you – is about to throw you in the furnace of blazing fire because you disobeyed his edict? Are you going to dread?

Daniel 3:16-17, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego replied to the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we are not in need of an answer to give you concerning this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will rescue us from your hand, O king.

These three Jewish boys were facing the real blazing fire that would have burn them at the steak. Yet, they were not juddered by it- why? Because their minds stayed on God. They trusted in His salvation.

What did they say to the king? “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us.” “Our God.” This is impressive! This kind of confidence is readily available for all believers in Christ Jesus. We are greater than they, as the matter of fact.

How did they serve their God? They served Him by keeping their minds on Him for they trusted in Him.

FYI: To trust in Him is a spiritual service that pleases Yahweh.

How do You trust in God?

How to get started trusting in God?

i) Start with hearing the word of God. Romans 12:2 writes, And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

ii) Put that word you heard to practice. James 1:22, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” Practice makes perfect. We learn by doing not listening 🙉. The more you workout the more you build muscles. Experience makes it better.

Proverbs 22:17-21, Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge; For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; Let them all be fixed upon your lips, so that your trust may be in the Lord; I have instructed you today, even you. Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, that I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you?

Do you want to be dangerous to the kingdom of darkness? Fix your mind on the word of God. The word of God is everything for a believer. You can’t afford to be a casual bible meditator. The Lord Jesus Christ said, It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life, John 6:63.

Personalize

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.”
*him * whose *he

You will keep Rachel in perfect peace, her mind stayed on You, Because Rachel (or she) trusts in You.

Conclusion

If we are looking for peace elsewhere, we won’t find it. If we think the United Nations or the Nobel Prize nominees can provide it, we are lying to ourselves. Only God, the maker of heaven and earth and everything in it can download His peace (which transcends all understanding)to us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Apart from Christ, there is no peace for you.
