Who is Your Authority?
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19.
A person once told me, “keep your faith to yourself.” She was muslim. I don’t know what Islam teaches, but I know they certain do not keep their faith to themselves. They are out there commanding people to convert to Islam and they use force. Islam is in the business of spreading yet they don’t want anyone else’s belief spreading-we call that hypocrisy. When I heard that I was like, you not my authority. You can’t tell me to shut up because you said so. I was a bit taken aback. She didn’t want the light. Darkness hates the light because it cannot comprehend it. Sinners hate the truth so much so that they crucified it.
I am not on my own. My life doesn’t belong to me. I have someone who completely owns me and have authority over me and He commanded me to go and make disciple of all nations. He is the only One that I listen to and I have to obey Him, not some mortal sinner with a breath on her nostril can tell me to keep my faith to myself; who she thinks she is?
‘Go’ is a command. That’s exactly what I was doing when that person tried to shut me down. She hated what she was hearing. It cut her to the quick. Isn’t what the truth does or supposed to do? “Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces? Jeremiah 23:29.
Jesus commands us to be teachers of all nations or make disciples of the heathens. Here He was speaking to His first century Jews disciples to go to the Gentiles and teach them what they have seen and learned from Him. Noticed from a previous verse He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me,” Matthew 28:18? Everything is under Him. All powers, all authority, all rulers are under Jesus’ feet. He is above everything.
Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost—or, “into the name”; as in 1 Corinthians 10:2, “And were all baptized into Moses”; and Galatians 3:27, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ.” Father God, Son God, Holy Spirit God, three in one, and one in three.
Verse 20, teaching them to follow (observe, obey) all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
We make disciples of Jesus by teaching sinners to obey what Christ has commanded us. We do not keep our faith to ourselves. Jesus has all authority and He has commanded us to be teachers of the heathens.
